“I’m not a racist,” but…

So, there’s this justice of the peace in Lousiana who refuses to marry interracial couples.

“I just don’t believe in mixing the races that way,” Keith Bardwell of Tangipahoa Parish told the Associated Press. “”In my heart, I feel the children will later suffer….I don’t want to put children in a situation they didn’t bring on themselves.”

According to his observations, interracial marriages also hardly ever last.

I am of intermingled races: black, white and east Indian, and I can’t think of a moment in my life when I underwent anything akin to ‘suffering’ because of it. Observing myself, my siblings and other interracial people, I’ve actually found that we have an unique understanding of the races we’re mixed with and even those we aren’t. Personally, I think if there were more interracial people in the world, there would be LESS suffering and less hatred on all levels.

Bardwell, by the way, insists he is not racist.

“I have piles and piles of black friends,” he told the Associated Press. “They come to my home, I marry them, they use my bathroom. I treat them just like everyone else.”

The last couple Bardwell refused to marry is suing him, and several lawmakers have called for him to step down.

  1. I think this judge better get a reality check or check reality because I think interracial relationships are fine. I don’t have a problem with it. Plus I think interracial relationships will last.

  2. Race is such a surface issue. If a relationship doesn’t work, that’s hardly the reason why. Whether or not relationships work is an issue much, much deeper than the color of someone’s skin. Anyway, I was discussing this in my journalism class. One of my classmates said, “If you have to count the amount of black friends you have, you’re racist.” Don’t know about that statement, but to say you have “piles” of black friends that use your restroom as if that’s qualifying is ridiculous.

  3. There is nothing wrong woth interacial dating…

  4. wow. the depths of human stupidity.

    he needs to back off.

  5. I think the judge was wrong for not marrying the interracial couple. Race doesn’t have any effect on whether people will stay together or not. If the couple were in love, it doesn’t really matter to me.

  6. I am mixed, too. Black and white. Those poor babies in Lousiana think something is wrong with interracial marriages. I mean, come on they produce interracial babies, and that is so cool! Haha. Jk. But honestly, we recognize it as a bad thing, but they’ll catch on. Just give them a little bit.

  7. in this both party must no wat they want cuz everyone does not see tha way u do

  8. okay well interracial marriage is not supposed to be wrong in this decade but it was before and that is sad. every member in my family is interracial if we like it or not and i believee that it is a wonderful thing. i am mixed and i love it. Black , White, Hispanic, Carribean, ……………..
