The author of my favorite book, “The Catcher in the Rye,” died on Jan. 27.
J.D. Salinger died of natural causes in his remote New Hampshire home at the age of 91, according to the Associated Press.
Salinger rose through and hid from society like his most admirable character, Holden Caulfield, refusing interviews, burning fan mail and writing from a cement bunker.
None of his novels were as moving as “The Catcher in the Rye.” The AP reports Mark David Chapman, the man who killed John Lennon, said the book was his inspiration, adding “This extraordinary book holds many answers.” A copy of the book was also found in the hotel of the man who tried to assassinate then-President Ronald Reagan. Weird right?
The book’s fictional protagonist, Holden, even has a page on Facebook. Who doesn’t like a kid who faced society wearing a red hat? He’s inspired many apathetic, rebellious teens, like moi.
If you haven’t read “The Catcher in the Rye,” I suggest you read it now.
Rest in peace, J.D. Salinger.

what a life!
sigh…. he will be missed
Yes, weird indeed. I could say so much about that fact alone, but I won’t.
Rest in peace, Salinger.
“I hope to hell that when I do die somebody has the sense to just dump me in the river or something. Anything except sticking me in a goddam cemetary. People coming and putting a bunch of flowers on your stomach on Sunday, and all that crap. Who wants flowers when you’re dead? Nobody.”
- JD Salinger
I agree with Salinger’s statement. I wouldn’t want to be fitted in with a variety people trhat have died at natural causes who deserved to be in a cementary. My blood belongs on a rock in the mountains.
