Web Time Wasters

If you need a cure for boredom and your first thought is: “OMG! I n33d 2 g3t 2 4 c0mputer |\|0\/\/!,” then this new VOX column is for you. But when you sit down and start feverishly typing on that keyboard, do you know where to go besides yet another visit to your MySpace page? Probably not. The fact is there are so many sites, YouTube videos and games online that it’s nearly impossible to find out what’s really worth wasting your time on. But never fear, I’m a licensed professional at this and I’ve done all the work for you. The following links are my top five, can’t-miss sites for January:

• Promiscuous Girl, The Overly-Caucasian Remix: Check out this video mash-up on YouTube (www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wz8crcR1qOU), where some Caucasian guy with too much time on his hands has managed to put himself into Nelly Furtado’s music video and added some tasteless humor to it. It’s obvious he doesn’t like Ms. Furtado — who I happen to adore — but I can’t help laughing at this!

• Legolas Sings: The blonde archer elf dude from “The Lord of the Rings” movie trilogy warbles about Hobbits and Golem on YouTube (www.youtube.com/watch?v=SSGaCycyMD0) to hilarious effect. “Whut did ‘ju saay?” will hopefully be the catch phrase of 2007 — you must view the video to understand what I mean. Since there’s no LOTR movie or any other truly epic movie out this winter, it’ll definitely give you your fantasy fix as well as some chuckles.

• Spanish Reggaeon Sensation K-Narias: Check out the Web site www.k-narias.com to find out more about these musical twins who have danced their way into my heart. You can listen to their songs at www.myspace.com/knarias; you don’t have to understand Spanish to enjoy their immensely catchy music.

• Quizfarm.com: Like to take fun quizzes for no reason? Like to farm? Seriously, www.quizfarm.com is full of crazy quizzes — such as “What high school clique do you belong in?” or “What religion is right for you?” — to take and then share with your friends through MySpace or LiveJournal. Make sure not to take these quizzes too seriously, though. If you’re a wallflower, you will not become a sex symbol overnight.

• The Most Annoying Dialogue Box in the World: Trust me, you have to experience it for yourself at http://allteengamer.tripod.com/test.html. Just make sure you don’t send it back to me.
