10. Learn how to define and spell five new words from the dictionary. Just because you’re out of school doesn’t mean you should stop learning.
9. Tie-Dye a T-shirt or bed sheets with Kool-Aid; you can’t drink all of it.
8. Draw a self-portrait, even if you’re not Degas. Stick figures can boost your creativity, too.
7. Run through the sprinklers. Remember how fun it was when you were 5?
6. Make a collage of pictures from magazines. You can theme it “Stuff I like,” “Stuff I hate” or “Stuff I put together because I was bored.”
5. Do some volunteer work. Help clean up a park or volunteer at an animal shelter. You’re not Superman, but you can do your bit to save the world.
4. Make a scrapbook of pictures of your friends and family through the years. You can title it “What were we thinking?”
3. Make a mixed playlist or CD of your favorite songs and title it “The soundtrack of my life so far.” For suggestions, check out VOX’s Summer Playlist (see page 17).
2. Have a swinging contest at the park with your friends. Whoever can jump the farthest without screaming for mommy wins! (But don’t hog the swings from the little kids.)
1. Have fun! And keep a journal of everything you do this summer. One day, you’ll look back and say, “Wow I can’t believe I kept a journal when I could’ve been at the mall or something.” Can’t you feel the memories now?
