Programs
Hey teens! Are you tired of your views seeming as if they don't matter? Does it ever seem like people don't get it, or they don't care? Or maybe you simply want to be around people who share your passion for writing and art, and the unique challenges you face as a teenager today. At VOX Teen Communications, it's all about teens and what we have to say.
VOX Teen Newspaper
More than 100 teens work together to create the South's only citywide, teen-run forum for free expression and information sharing. VOX is read by about 80,000 people each month during the school year. More than nine out ten readers tell us they make positive changes in their lives as a result of reading our stories.
Peer Writing Groups
Teens at VOX have organized several writing programs that offer creative outlets in a
comfortable, safe environment. Each year, teens organize the Epiphany Girls Group. You can join Epiphany this year by calling or emailing us for your application and returning it before December 18.
JUST Georgia Project
The Just Georgia Initiative was created to revise the Juvenile Code. We at VOX believe when the juvenile code is revised, we teens should have our own input into the new code by documenting our personal experiences through video, artwork and written stories. Our agenda is to collect stories about teens living in the system, as well their thoughts about the juvenile code. By doing this we will have a voice, and give valuable input into something that will have a great impact on our lives as well as thousands of other juveniles throughout the system.
"Raise Your Voice" Summer Program
This program unites 14 local teens in a four-week internship designed to usher metro-Atlanta youth into journalism and community leadership. Participants get to work with mentors from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and freelance stories for professional media while practicing diversity appreciation and conflict resolution.
VOX Web Team
Teens
work together to create and maintain this Web site, expressing the voices of Atlanta-area youth online.
Graduation Countdown
Are you stressed about the SAT, those dreaded college applications, finances or other aspects of life after high school? Graduation Countdown is a peer support group dedicated to assisting us teens with just that. Teens at VOX also get to work with mentors in many career fields through job-shadowing, coaching in our newsroom, field trips and workshops.
Community Building and Workshops
In partnership with local schools and community groups, VOX brings self-expression activities to more than 200 teens per year. Our workshops include a wide range of topics like poetry, photography, journalism and art. What makes our workshops unique is that they are often co-facilitated by VOX teen staff members. VOX teens are also active in diversity training and community service projects that help teens reflect on their roles as participants in civil society, reducing prejudices and building tolerance, understanding and self-esteem.
Teen Resource Guide
TeenResourceATL.org is a resource guide for Atlanta teens that provides information on resources for self-help in the community and their “teen-friendliness.”
