JUSTGeorgia Initiative
What is the JUSTGeorgia Initiative?
JUSTGeorgia is a coalition of community organizations and individuals committed to making Georgia’s justice and social service systems better for children and youth.
JUSTGeorgia’s primary goal is to advocate, observe and report laws and policies that affect the youth of Georgia. They are currently working for a better Juvenile Code to service the child development field. By identifying, and changing the policies in Georgia social services system they will prevent detention and continue healthy behaviors outside of the juvenile justice system.
VOX Teen Communications has collaborated with JUSTGeorgia for the benefit of all those that are affected by the Juvenile Code. Our mission is to project teen voices and improve the Juvenile Code by using stories of teens’ experience with the system through collected stories, photography and recording.
What is the Juvenile Code?
The Georgia Codes Juvenile court provision (juvenile code) is a series of laws that governs how our state responds to children and their families in cases of abuse, neglect, violations of criminal law by children, and other circumstances requiring court intervention. The juvenile code was enacted in 1971. Through the collection of teen's original writings, art, and videos, that will be accumulate through vox-led workshops, VOX will offer a collection of teen experiences to the Legislators informing them how the teens have been directly influence by the Juvenile Code and the system.
How can you speak out for change?
You can help fix the Juvenile Code by emailing us your experiences with the system and how they have affected you.
By speaking out about your experiences you too will be assisting in the valiant pursuance of a Georgia that truly serves Justice to the hundreds of thousands of youth in the system. Email your story to justgeorgia@voxrox.org and be the change. |
