Adult Staff
Jennifer Kravitz Huckleby, Development Director: Jennifer, a native Atlantan, has more than eight years of fund-raising experience, having worked at the American Red Cross, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, and, most recently, Jewish Healthcare International. Jennifer has over 15 years of management and staff leadership, and hopes to help VOX develop a strong fund-raising program to raise more awareness about our work so we can train and support even more teens.
Erica Kamara, MAJ, Editor: Erica is a professional journalist with a passion for coaching young writers. She has taught writing courses emphasizing effective reporting strategies, critical thinking and how to tap into their creativity and curiosity to produce compelling stories. Erica earned her master's degree in converged media journalism from Regent University. Before joining VOX in 2007, she worked as a web content producer at Kudzu.com. At VOX, Erica guides the overall content of the newspaper, blog and website, and instructs teens throughout the writing and publishing process—from honing story ideas and reporting to publishing in print and online. Erica also supports our Girls Writing Group.
JD Sparks, Associate Editor: JD comes to VOX with 10 years experience as a professional writer and editor, working with various newspapers and magazines in Texas and California. She has also worked as managing editor of a community newspaper group. JD earned her Master’s in Fine Arts in writing from Mills College, and has taught writing for 10 years as well. Guiding teens in publishing, teaching writing and mentoring here at VOX is the culmination of JD’s work experience – and a gift she is proud to offer our community.
Rachel Alterman Wallack, MSW, Executive Director: A native Atlantan, Rachel's experience writing for Junior Scholastic and Business Atlanta magazines inspired her to help start VOX Teen Communications with a team of volunteer teens and adults in 1993. Rachel earned her master's degree in social work at night in order to support teens involved in VOX's programs, and she has since volunteered and consulted with several local non-profits in the area of youth development, youth in governance and organizational leadership, and non-profit organizational development. Her role at VOX today is to guide strategic planning and Board Development, support our adult staff and help secure the resources we need.
Jenny Williams, MSW, Operations Manager: A Florida native, Jenny movied to Atlanta to attend Agnes Scott College, where she pursued twin passions: expression and activism. Jenny subsequently joined Emory University’s staff, working with both the Women’s Center and peer-driven Writing Center. Later, as a graduate student at UNC Chapel Hill, she worked as an investigator and victim outreach specialist on death penalty cases, where she was privileged to help uncover and give voice to previously unheard stories. At VOX, Jenny manages operations with a focus on organizational effectiveness, efficiencies and impact. She believes that storytelling is the common thread of her journey and is excited to help Atlanta teens raise their voices through journalistic storytelling.
