VOX is hiring our first Development Director!

VOX Teen Communication seeks a resourceful, committed, organized, creative and enthusiastic team member to lead our fundraising efforts. 

The successful candidate must have a passion for youth development and VOX’s mission – and the ability help lead the Board and staff in advancing the organization to be able to reach tens of thousands of teens throughout metropolitan Atlanta.

The Development Director, a newly created position at VOX, will strengthen our current fund raising systems and lead the implementation of an ambitious fund-raising program focused on expanding the organization’s revenue base. Specific job duties include:

Planning, Training & Reporting

  • Develop and manage development budget and annual fundraising plan
  • Work with the Executive Director (ED) and Board of Directors to establish fundraising goals (annual and long-term)
  • Keep the organization apprised of latest trends and news in development
  • Assist the fund raising committee in the implementation of reports and trainings
  • Prepare development reports for monthly Board meetings, donors, auditor, etc., as necessary

Grants and Gifts Management

  • Manage foundation and small government grant-related activities including: grants calendar, prospect research, cultivation meetings, proposal development, and grant reporting
  • Develop cause-related marketing proposals as appropriate
  • Develop and implement strategies for annual plan and other development campaigns (e.g., back-to-school campaign, other as designed)

Donor Cultivation & Relations

  • Conduct research to identify new individual, corporate, foundation donors
  • Work with ED and Board to meet with potential donors to develop and support new and existing relationships
  • Create mechanisms to engage donors in the mission and impact of VOX’s work (may involve work with VOX’s marketing and/or fund raising committee, board alumni network, and creation of advisory board.)
  • Manage donor database and files
  • Write/send thank you letters for donations and gifts
  • Assist with supporting Board members as donors including managing the Board section of VOX’s Web site and meeting minutes
  • Create and implement strategies to recapture lapsed donors and evaluate donor satisfaction

Special Events

  • Develop sponsorship opportunities and communications materials for events
  • Develop and implement current as well as new concepts for profitable events as approved by the fund raising committee  (current benefits include fall wine tasting/silent auction and spring corporate challenge spelling bee)
  • Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers to support fundraising events

Earned Revenue

  • Work with ED to develop and implement earned-revenue venture/s as approved by the Board to generate income

Agency Operations, Teamwork & Representing VOX in the Community

  • Regularly engage in VOX’s teambuilding and publishing activities with the teens to best experience and articulate our mission and programs
  • Maintain content on VOX’s Web site focusing on donors, events, supporting VOX, etc.
  • Participate as a team player in VOX’s events (e.g., occasional community events, board meetings, staff development events, etc.)
  • Represent VOX at local, regional, and national forums as appropriate
  • Work with Program Director to maintain proper office supplies, especially as needed for development activities and events
  • Work toward our organized and efficient, yet creative, work environment

Other Duties as assigned
        
Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of fundraising experience with non-profits
  • Must demonstrate successful leadership in securing funding through foundation and corporate grant writing, special events, and/or earned income
  • Excellent research and communications skills, as well as skills in information management and tracking
  • Knowledge of Atlanta-area funding and non-profits
  • High level of comfort and desire to engage with people from all walks of life, establishing and maintaining professional relationships with VOX participants and supporters
  • Technological proficiency, including Microsoft Office software, Internet research (knowledge of both Apple and PC platforms are a plus); proficiency with Access is a plus
  • Knowledge in E-marketing and/or philanthropy is a plus
  • Basic knowledge of graphic design and Web publishing (experience with Adobe Creative Suite) is a plus
  • Must have own transportation/be able to get around Metro Atlanta easily
  • Must be able to juggle multiple tasks
  • Must be highly motivated and self-directed, as well as comfortable working in a team environment

Compensation & Benefits:
Generally 40-hour workweek is Monday-Friday. Flexible scheduling is an option, including telecommuting as appropriate. During the 2008-2009 school year, the schedule will include Monday afternoons/evenings (2-7 p.m.) in the office.  Starting salary $40,000. Benefits after successful completion of probationary period include health, dental and life insurance, PTO, FSA and 403b options, parking/MARTA, opportunities for professional growth and education/training.
