VOX Development Director
VOX Teen Communications seeks a resourceful, committed, organized, creative and enthusiastic team member to lead our fundraising efforts. 
The successful candidate must have a passion for youth development, work easily with teenagers and adults, and understand and subscribe to VOX’s mission.  He/she must have the ability help lead the Board and staff in advancing the organization in accordance with our strategic plan.
VOX’s Development Director will strengthen our current fund-raising systems and lead the implementation of an ambitious fund-raising program focused on expanding the organization’s revenue base.  The successful candidate will come with strategies and contacts to facilitate the growth of VOX’s budget to achieve the goals in the strategic plan.

Specific job duties include:
Planning, Training & Reporting
  • Develop and manage development budget
  • Author, update and keep the Board informed of progress against an original annual fundraising plan
  • Work with the Executive Director (ED) and Board of Directors to establish fundraising goals (annual and long-term)
  • Keep the organization apprised of latest trends and news in development
  • Assist the fund-raising committee in the development and delivery of reports and trainings
  • Prepare development reports for monthly Board meetings, donors, auditor, etc., as necessary
Grants and Gifts Management
  • Write, edit and compile grant proposals
  • Work with Program Director to gather and interpret impact data to share in proposals and reports
  • Manage foundation and small government grant-related activities including: grants calendar, prospect research, cultivation meetings, proposal development, and grant reporting
  • Develop cause-related marketing proposals as appropriate
  • Develop and implement strategies for annual campaign and other development campaigns including e-appeals and one-time events (e.g., back-to-school campaign)
Donor Cultivation & Relations
  • Conduct research to identify new individual, corporate, and foundation donors
  • Work with ED and Board to request, schedule, and prepare materials for meetings with potential donors
  • Develop and support new and existing relationships
  • Create mechanisms to engage donors in the mission and impact of VOX’s work (may involve work with VOX’s marketing and fund-raising committees, board alumni network, and creation of advisory board)
  • Oversee maintenance of donor database and files
  • Oversee gifts processing, thank you letters, and records maintenance
  • Write, or oversee Board/volunteers to write and design collateral for donors, such as brochures, pledge cards, return envelopes and special appeals
  • Help support Board members by creating reports, attending committee meetings,  managing the Board section of VOX’s website, overseeing the Board campaign with Board fundraising chair, processing pledge reminders and supporting Board members’ fund development activities (parties, letter-writing, e-campaigns, etc.)
  • Create and implement strategies to recapture lapsed donors and evaluate donor satisfaction
Special Events
  • Develop and implement current as well as new concepts for profitable events as approved by the fund raising committee (VOX currently holds two major special events per year)
  • Manage Board/volunteer committee’s involvement in each event, including but not limited to planning meetings, assigning roles, communication and follow-up
  • Develop sponsorship opportunities and communications materials for events
  • Prepare event updates and action items for Board meetings
Earned Revenue
  • Work with ED to develop and implement earned-revenue venture/s as approved by the Board to generate income
Agency Operations, Teamwork & Representing VOX in the Community
  • Help recruit, train, and supervise volunteers to support fund-raising events
  • Engage in VOX’s teambuilding and publishing activities with the teens to best experience and articulate our mission and programs, including occasional evenings and Saturdays
  • Maintain content on VOX’s website focusing on development
  • Participate in VOX’s events (e.g., occasional community events, board meetings, staff development events, etc.)
  • Represent VOX at local, regional, and national forums as appropriate
  • Work with Operations Manager/Office Manager to maintain supplies needed for development activities
  • Work toward our organized and efficient, yet creative, work environment
Other Duties as assigned
                                                                
Qualifications:
  • At least 5 years of related experience in nonprofits, foundations, or corporate giving
  • Must demonstrate successful leadership in securing funding through foundation and corporate grant writing, special events, and campaigns among individuals; experience with earned income is a plus.
  • Excellent research and communications skills, as well as skills in information management and tracking
  • Knowledge of Atlanta-area nonprofit sector and funding landscape
  • High level of comfort and desire to engage with people from all walks of life, establishing and maintaining professional relationships with VOX participants and supporters
  • Technological proficiency, including Microsoft Office software, Internet research (knowledge of both Apple and PC platforms are a plus); proficiency with Access and Dreamweaver are a plus
  • Knowledge in E-marketing and/or philanthropy is a plus
  • Basic knowledge of graphic design and Web publishing (experience with Adobe Creative Suite) is a plus
  • Must have own transportation/be able to get around Metro Atlanta easily
  • Exhibit highest level of excellence in efficient project management and ability to fulfill competing priorities
  • Must be highly motivated and self-directed, as well as comfortable working in a team environment in an office with an open floor plan.
Compensation & Benefits:
During the 2009-2010 school year, the schedule includes Monday afternoons/evenings (2-7 p.m.) in the office. Starting salary is $50,000. Benefits after successful completion of probationary period include health, dental and life insurance, PTO, FSA and 403b options, parking/MARTA, opportunities for professional growth and education/training. Telecommuting and flexible scheduling are options, as appropriate.

op mngrOperations Manager
The Operations Manager of VOX has a strategic focus on organizational effectiveness, efficiencies and impact.
VOX’s Operations Manager will manage the day-to-day operations of our 17-year-old, growing non-profit organization and will assist in advancing it through streamlined business operations and communications with stakeholders. 
The successful candidate will be able to provide a high level of attention to detail in managing VOX’s accounting and development transactions, as well as in operations that support teens’ after-school programs and monthly publication. The most successful candidate will enjoy the mission of supporting diverse groups of teenagers as they develop skills and build a strong community through the creation of VOX Atlanta’s only citywide newspaper and web site created by and for teens.
This is a new position for VOX, which employs a small team of adult staff where collegiality is key.

Reports to Executive Director. Responsibilities include:
 Financial management
  • Manage invoices, bill payments, Quickbooks records; liaise with external bookkeeper for monthly reconciliation and reports to the Board
  • Enter timesheet data and calculate monthly percentage allocations to provide report synopsis to the executive director
  • Calculate postage allocations based on tracking
  • Make and record deposits
  • Prepare and submit payroll to VOX’s payroll vendor for employee compensation
  • Generate, manage and record donor acknowledgements and correspondence
  • Run flex savings and PTO reports for employees
  • Assist with budgeting processes
  • Assist with audit preparation and audit process
  • Organize monthly donor reports for recognition in VOX newspaper and website
 Office management
  • Purchase and track office supplies, teens’ snacks, MARTA fare, etc. Will involve some local travel/errands (e.g. Costco)
  • Manage vendors/vendor relationships
  • Manage office equipment maintenance, trouble-shooting, inventory
  • Answer and direct phone calls, collect and distribute mail, organize supplies and computer files, etc.
Data management
  • Maintain database for program and development functions
  • Help manage acquisition and data migration for new database tool in 2010
  • Streamline information management, including move from hard-copy to electronic filing systems
 Program operations
  • Manage mailings for VOX distribution, bulk mail and teachers’ curriculum eight times per year to 300+ schools/youth agencies
  • Manage outreach mailings (or electronic communications) to existing and new potential distributors of VOX newspaper / products
  • Assist with updating portions of the VOX website 
  • Help staff VOX programming on as-needed basis as part of staffing team (periodic evening or Saturday coverage may be requested)
Board of Directors and other volunteer support
  • Support Board meetings (second Tuesday evening of each month), including food/room set-up, reports, taking minutes; post minutes on Board website 
  • Assist with Board handbook, orientation and materials
  • Assist with updating the Board portion of our website
Other related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Experience with operational functions in an office environment
  • Experience with bookkeeping software; Quickbooks preferred
  • Experience with service organizations and the non-profit sector
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software application is required; Adobe software applications is a plus
  • Ability to manage time and balance demands effectively in a lively, creative and collaborative teen atmosphere; self-motivated and directed
  • Bachelor’s degree minimum, or equivalent experience in business or non-profit administration
  • Must be able to provide own transportation for errands
Schedule: Full-time job, generally M-F, has a flexible schedule that will include periodic evening meetings and occasional Saturdays to connect with programming.
Salary/Benefits: Starting salary $38,000-$40,000, depending on experience.  Benefits include 100% health, dental, vision insurance; parking/Marta; professional development opportunities after probationary period. Opportunities for growth.
