Olivia Veira

Olivia Veira is a 13 –year-old eighth grader at Inman Middle School. She hopes to get into the communications magnet at Grady High School next year. Olivia is ready to move on to Grady. However, she enjoys the confident and vivacious atmosphere of the eighth grade hallways. She is in about eight (and counting) organizations at school.

At home, Olivia is the self-proclaimed “rhythm less child of the family”, while her little sister Madeline is a great dancer. Olivia’s family is very important to her. Although they don’t always get along, she can count on them to be there for her. Her parents are divorced.

Some people see writing as a tedious action that will only result in tired hands and many words put together. To Olivia, writing is an escape from the real world and a best friend to share her deepest darkest secrets. Writing is a very important part of her life and she hopes that at VOX she will be able to channel her writing into something more productive while learning and growing to be a great journalist. She says the day that she stumbled upon VOX was a “magical day.” Her teacher made the students in her 7th grade class read one of the newspapers and Olivia immediately researched. She was heartbroken to find that she was not old enough to join the teen staff, but when she turned 13, she sent in her application.

Olivia loves to shop, talk on the phone, and IM. She plays soccer, but her inability to walk 20 steps without tripping makes Olivia a better sideline cheerer. She loves to walk around her neighborhood and go to the Trader Joe’s down the street. She also loves any kind of cake. Her favorite movies include “The Notebook”, “Juno”, “A Walk to Remember”, “Barbie as Rapunzel”, and “Tom Thumb and Thumbelina”. “I don’t have to be a little kid to watch little kid movies,” she points out.

Olivia always has a smile on her face and loves to spread it to others. She is caring, spastic, gleeful, gawky, optimistic and amazing.
